About Traditional Craftsmanship & Timeless Landscapes.
Growing up in the Peak District, surrounded by landmarks such as Chatsworth House, The Crescent and The Devonshire Dome, we developed a deep appreciation for the beauty and craftsmanship of natural stone. Inspired by the area's rich architectural heritage, we create bespoke stonework that complements its surroundings, respects the natural landscape and is built to stand the test of time.

Gary Ives
Gary's passion for stonework began long before Earth, Stone & Mortar was founded. Growing up on the family farm in the Peak District, he learnt the traditional art of dry stone walling from an early age, developing an appreciation for the craftsmanship and character that define the region's landscape.

Over the next 25 years, Gary built his career working on everything from dry stone walls and bespoke garden features to large-scale landscaping projects, award-winning show gardens and television productions. Along the way, he refined his skills, working with a wide variety of natural stone and continually striving to perfect his craft.

In 2019, Gary decided it was time to take the leap and establish Earth, Stone & Mortar—a business built around quality rather than quantity, where every project could receive the time, care and attention it deserves.

When he's not on site, you'll often find Gary exploring the Peak District with his family, taking inspiration from its historic villages, dry stone walls and breathtaking landscapes—or, more often than not, stopping to admire a beautifully built stone wall while everyone else keeps walking!

Lee Jones
Lee is one of the trusted contractors we work with regularly and someone you’ll often see alongside Gary on site.
Â
As cousins, their working relationship goes back long before Earth, Stone & Mortar, having both started out working on the family farm and learning the value of hard work, reliability and doing things properly from an early age.

Over the years, they have developed an easy, well-established way of working together, built on shared experience and a strong understanding of the standards expected on every project. From groundwork and site preparation to supporting larger builds and adding the finishing touches, Lee brings enthusiasm, practical skill and close attention to detail.

His dependable nature, positive attitude and willingness to get stuck in make him a valued part of the wider Earth, Stone & Mortar team—and, as family, there is rarely a shortage of honest opinions on site.
